Upset The Rhythm presents…
THE OBLIVIANS
Wednesday 27 July
Tufnell Park Dome, 178 Junction Road, Tufnell Park, N19 5QQ
7.30pm | £16 | http://www.wegottickets.com/event/355934
Formed in Memphis
in 1993, Oblivians are Greg Oblivian (aka Greg Cartwright), Eric Oblivian (aka
Eric Friedl) and Jack Oblivian (aka Jack Yarber). Scaring the country folks of
Memphis since their 1995 debut Soul Food
in 1995, the Oblivians refuse to bow to any preconceived misconceptions of
three-piece ensembles; instead, this is a band that pays homage to the Ramones,
the Sonics, and the Stooges by creating their own sound of nostalgic, ‘60s
garage punk using lo-fi equipment.
In both their live
shows and recordings, the three members alternate between instruments, each
playing guitar, drums and singing lead vocals.
“There’s a case to be made that
Oblivians are the greatest Memphis music act of the post- Al Green/Big Star era…With
a deeper musicality and more charisma than most, but with no loss of energy or
attitude for it, they are legends in their scene for good reason.”—Memphis
