Frobos returns today with his first new solo music in five (count them)
years. Having kept busy with his group Omni - recently celebrating the
10th anniversary of their debut album - Frobos now eases back into solo
mode with a digital single featuring two thrilling covers: ‘Waxwing’ by
Sorry and ‘Kawasaki’ by Jane Birkin. Consider your appetite whetted:
there’s much more music waiting just over the horizon!
Philip adds:
“‘Waxwing’
and ‘Kawasaki’ were two covers that had been on my docket for some
time. ‘Waxwing,’ originally by the elegant and occasionally grotesque
band Sorry, features dual drumming from Rodrigo Avendaño (Soccer Mommy)
and Jonah Swilley (Revival Season, Mattiel). It was recorded by Avendaño
at his studio in Atlanta, GA, and mastered by Andy Clarke. I
immediately fell in love with the Sorry track. I found it captivating in
its dark humour, contemporary dystopian outlook and sense of
disengagement. ‘Kawasaki,’ also recorded by Avendaño, shares similar
themes, albeit coming from a different place and time: societal
rejection, apathy and nihilism. Jane Birkin, Serge Gainsbourg and
Jean-Claude Vannier are household staples for me; Sunday mornings with
coffee and eggs.”
