SHEER MAG begins like so many other celebrated rock 'n roll bands of yore: with two brothers. Following in the tradition of The Bee Gees, Oasis and The Allman Brothers, the brothers Seely conspired to create a rock 'n roll band to end all rock bands. The sheer magnitude of the endeavor required the recruitment of a daring drummer, a fearless lyricist and a diva who could party good AND write the rent check. With the pantheon assembled, MAG quickly recorded and released their debut 7" to cosmic acclaim. The band now stands poised on the brink of world domination or complete destruction. Is it Punk? Is it Rock 'n Roll? We'll leave that to the music 'critics.' But it is punk. TERRY is getting ready, combing his hair, buttoning his jacket, turning the key in the door. "I'm doing fine," sings Terry out loud, he knows. Divide him into four and you get Al Montfort (UV Race, Total Control, Dick Diver etc.), Amy Hill (Constant Mongrel, School Of Radiant Living), Xanthe Waite (Primo, Mick Harvey Band) and Zephyr Pavey (Eastlink, Total Control, Russell Street Bombings). Inevitably, Terry likes to make a noise. Drums, guitars and all his voices come into play, making a solid raft for Terry's inner musings to navigate the languid rapids. This all unravels at its own pace, sometimes drifting into glam pop and country backwaters, always conducting a conversation with the commonplace. Love is a highway, but you're not likely to find Terry there anymore. He's on the plane. Terry saw the light, he put on his sunhat and is heading to Europe. Debut album, 'Terry HQ' was released last year by Upset The Rhythm, brand new album 'Remember Terry' is due out June 30th. TV CRIME are a new garage punk / power pop band from Nottingham who come fully formed. Their debut single 'Hooligans' (out of Satic Shock) is a total stomper of a power pop song that starts like a classic Good Vibrations Records 7" with The Moondogs-esque guitar work and the energy of 90's legends New Bomb Turks or Gaunt. Flip 'Wild One' is another pounder but with a more rock 'n' roll twist.

Terry - new album released and London concert this Friday!

Morning everyone!   This Friday we’re celebrating the release Terry’s new album ‘Remember Terry’ with a party at The Lexington. Terry will perform their glammy, country-stepping punk/pop odysseys accompanied by their new European synth player (albeit made of paper mache) before heading out to the continent for a few weeks of shows. Friday’s show also features the debut live appearance from Child’s Pose (an inspired meeting of minds between members of Woolf, Sauna Youth, Nekra and Sarcasm), whilst the brilliant Home Entertainment will be opening the show. Tickets cost £8 on the door, plus live music will start bouncing off the walls around 8.15pm.   Read on for all of Friday’s details along with our upcoming show listing for Sheer Mag in London next month at Islington Assembly Hall.

‘Remember Terry’ will be released on LP, CD and digitally through Upset The Rhythm all around the world this Friday. After returning from last summer’s European tour, Terry set about writing a new album of songs. These are now grouped together as ‘Remember Terry’, an album full of wish fulfillment, critiqued characters, memorial muscle and historical hustle. Check out this week’s live session for Marc Riley to get a scoop on how great they’re sounding right now.   ‘Remember Terry’ is a fitting follow-up to last year’s debut album. Ideas are pursued and new ground explored. The gang vocals and rapidly chased down melodies we’ve come to expect from the band are still present, only now supplemented with lush keyboard touches, drum machines and a more relaxed attitude allowing the songs to go where they want to go.

Pega Monstro's new album released! Plus Terry's upcoming London concert!

Evening all!

We’re delighted to share with you the newest record to hatch from Upset The Rhythm’s nest, it’s a stunningly alive album by Pega Monstro entitled Casa de Cima. Pega Monstro are sisters Julia Reis (drums) and Maria Reis (guitar), both sing. They share the same birthday but are not twins and have always lived in Lisbon, Portugal. They play a raucous yet at times deeply poignant garage rock peppered with their very own intuitive sense of harmony.

Casa de Cima, translates into English as ‘Upper House’, sharing its name with the Villa in which the album was recorded, nestled amongst the pine-scattered terrain of the Sintra mountains. With this new record Pega Monstro constantly reach for something beyond plain comprehension, stretching songs to their limits before collapsing them back into new interesting forms. Pega Monstro nurture their songs, letting them follow tangents, take risks, fall over even if it means they sound more vibrant. There’s a sense of sisterly oneness and provision apparent in their music allowing the album to sound instinctual and awash with ideas. Casa de Cima is a record with its eyes firmly set on the heavens and courageous enough to climb mountains to get closer to them.

You’ll also notice in our webshop new pre-order links for Robert Sotelo and Pikacyu-Makoto’s forthcoming albums through Upset The Rhythm too. We’ll have some music to share from Mr Sotelo soon, but we can treat you now to the title track of Pikacyu-Makoto’s August 4th album Galaxilympics. Featuring two figureheads of underground Japanese music; PIKA from Afrirampo and Makoto Kawabata of legendary psychedelic avatars Acid Mother’s Temple, this duo embrace both sides of the coin, chaos and order, male and female, the angel and the devil. PIKA brings her skills of mystifying performance to the table, all free-drum bluster and vocals veering between shrine maiden and wild spirit. Kawabata's guitar-work moves from a roar to a whisper, a yell to a sob, he’s working on the same canvas of extremes. The aim of their unity is to write truly celestial hymns for the outer world and odes of love for the inner cosmic context, have a listen!

Later this month we’re in the privileged position of releasing Melbourne glammy punks Terry’s second album, Remember Terry. Today we unveiled a brand new video of them performing new track ‘Glory’ whilst driving around and being taken to task by a paper mache executioner. Check that out below, off with their heads!

'Remember Terry' is released on June 30th, they’ll also be touring all over Europe throughout late June and July too, full dates can be found on our website along with upcoming tour dates for Bamboo, Deerhoof, Pega Monstro, Pikacyu-Makoto, Rat Columns, Rattle, Xiu Xiu and The World. SHANNON AND THE CLAMS are from Oakland, California and comprise of Shannon Shaw (vocals, bass), Cody Blanchard (vocals, guitar), and Ian Amberson (drums, vocals). Sounding like a prom band from 1964 getting dosed with acid and having the sweetest lovelorn freak out, Shannon And The Clams defy expectations. Imagine a brawling Etta James, backed up by the 13th Floor Elevators singing Shangri La's tunes. Shannon has a voice that can go from a sweet girl group croon to a bluesy ballsy growl before you realize you're headed for the (dance) floor. It's total punk rock bop, brimming with doo-wop glory delivered to your door by the Homecoming Queen and Kings of weirdo rock 'n' roll. What started as an open mic project for a shy, young Shannon to try out some tunes ended with the Clams meeting and forming a band. Many have said to have been possessed by thee (eerily similar at times) haunted howls and beautiful growls of their two lead vocalists, hypnotized by their heavy heartbeats, and mesmerized by their magical music. Your ears may become infested with a real Buddy Holly jolly kinda joy (oh boy) while you stutter along to a hiccupy song. Take a scratch and a sniff at these stickers and get bit by their bad-brained snarls. It's always Christmas (if you want it). It's your party time, and it's excellent. Cry-yi-yi if you want to, but be sure to surf a splish-splash with a laugh later. Recent album, ‘Gone by the Dawn’ (Hardly Art) is monumental; immense, magnificent, and unforgettable. Shannon and the Clams have pioneered their way into a lonesome land where the past still lives in the long shadows of a hot afternoon, where whispering spirits follow high along canyon walls, and if you sink your fingers into the dusty hard-packed earth you pull out hands smeared with blood.

Warm Digits are Steve Jefferis and Andrew Hodson; a trans-pennine, krautophonic blizzard-wave duo that emerged from Newcastle upon Tyne’s underground scene with a sound like Neu and Cluster forming a supergroup with Giorgio Moroder, Kevin Shields, Eno and Keith Levene. Their first album, ‘Keep Warm… with the Warm Digits’, came out in 2011 on Newcastle’s Distraction Records; Andrew Weatherall described them as producing some fine “machine funk kraut-a-delia” and the duo were soon went on to headline one of his Live From Outer Space events. Live, Warm Digits are a motoric epiphany of drums, guitar and pulsing hardware, complete with mesmeric kosmische visuals; all that on-stage multi-tasking making their live sets a dynamic kraut-disco experience. The last few years have seen Warm Digits release a second album entitled ‘Interchange’, tour with British Sea Power and support the legendary Goblin, St Etienne, Future Islands and ESG. Warm Digits now have a new album due out on Memphis Industries this August, featuring vocal contributions from Field Music, Sarah Cracknell, Devon Sproule and Mia La Metta.
