Rattle - debut album out today, launch party next week!

Morning all!
Today sees the release of Rattle’s debut album, so from this moment you can now pick it up from all the best shops around the world or directly through our mail order shop here!

Formed by Katharine Eira Brown and Theresa Wrigley, Rattle began as an experiment in crafting rich songs and melody using drums and voice alone. Their music weaves and intertwines post-punk, minimalism and experimental rock, through off-kilter rhythms, phasing patterns and counter melodies.

Often starting by picking out the ghost notes from the drums to develop a melody, their songs reveal themselves in rounds and harmonies with layer upon layer of rhythm and vocal, lending a choral feel to some of the tracks on their self-titled debut album. ‘Starting’ has a sense of urgency and a repeated lyric phrase that becomes a mantra, and ‘Click’ is more soothing and meditative. The hi-hat and cymbal hits in ‘Sorcerer’ have a sword-fighting feel and ‘Stringer Bell’ is more of a cocktail song from a 1950s city apartment. The fantastic ‘The Girls Are’ blog have just premiered the whole stream of the album too, happy listening!

Rattle’s live shows conjure all the magic and excitement from their creative process, taking in all things hypnotic, monastic and danceable, presenting them anew.

Next Thursday, Rattle will be performing at a special album launch party we’ve set up in London, taking place at St Pancras Old Church in King’s Cross. Accompanying them throughout the evening with their own performances will be boundary-leaper Charles Hayward (of This Heat, Camberwell Now etc.) and the ever-inventive Ex-Easter Island Head, debuting a piece for prepared-guitars and FM radios in solo mode. Charles will be performing two pieces during the evening, one entitled ‘Thirty Minute Snare Roll’, the second called ‘The Bell Agency’. Tickets are £6 and are available from the link below, we hope you can join us for this unique event!

We also confirmed this week a new concert for Calvin Johnson in October. Selector Dub Narcotic in person will be bringing the party to Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club on October 17th with support from Catenary Wires. Tickets now onsale! Plenty of time to practice all your best dance moves! Not sure if I’m addressing that to you or Calvin!

RATTLE are a Nottingham based duo, Rattle focus almost exclusively on drums and more drums, beneath a delicate overlay of vocal harmonies and percussive effects. Formed by Katharine Eira Brown (also of Kogumaza) and Theresa Wrigley (also of Fists), Rattle began as an experiment in crafting rich songs and melody using drums and voice alone. Their music weaves and intertwines post-punk, minimalism and experimental rock, through off-kilter rhythms, patterns and counter melodies. Often starting by picking out the ghost notes from the drums to develop a melody, the song then reveals itself in rounds and harmonies with layer upon layer of rhythm and vocal, lending a choral feel to some of the tracks. Rattle effortlessly blend the avant-garde with irresistible melodies and hypnotic drum beats, using rhythm and harmony to create a refreshing sound that is utterly new - a pretty rare feat these days when we’re saturated with so much music. Their live performances are at once hypnotic, monastic and danceable, having entranced audiences at Supersonic Festival, Dot to Dot, throughout the UK during a recent tour with Witching Waves and in Europe with Zea (Arnold de Boer from The Ex). Rattle’s debut self-titled album will be released on Upset The Rhythm and I Own You on August 5th, this show celebrates their London record launch!

Duvall presenting a mesmeric new work for prepared guitars and FM radios, tuning into the furthermost territories of the groups' unique vocabulary in pursuit of resonances sympathetic or otherwise.
