UTR televison - EPISODE 6 > > > JOHN MAUS

Upset The Rhythm TV #6: John Maus from Charles Chintzer Lai on Vimeo.

We visit the house of classical music composer Handel with John Maus. Our resident scholars Adam Harper and Felix Lee get conceptual with Maus about harmonic vs. melodic songwriting, how music is contextualised within film, and the relation between music and society. See Maus pour his heart and bones into a live set @ The Grosvenor.

Directed, filmed & edited by Charles Chintzer Lai

YES WAY 2010!!!

Are you ready to have fun?

YES WAY!

Tomorrow evening through to the end of the weekend will see us hosting along with mega-friends Auto-Italia a three day celebration of the verdant underground art and music communities across our Sceptred Isle. We've entitled this festival YES WAY in the spirit of venture and positivity. The event will take place from 6pm til Midnight on Friday and Noon til Midnight on Saturday and Sunday and takes place at Auto-Italia's gallery space in Peckham (address and directions below). The space used to be a car showroom so we're able to run two stages in the two adjoining warehouse rooms. 41 different bands are going to perform and many artists will exhibit over the whole weekend. None of the music will overlap and the timings will be announced only at the event each morning. There'll also be a temporary DIY supermarket, a YES WAY zine collecting work from the bands and artists involved this year, a live TV lab opening the festival up to viewers on the internet, an impromptu dance lesson in the park, a selection of great food (vegan/veggie/meaty/cakes galore) for sale and a not-for-profit bar helping to support the event. I've been looking forward to this for so long I'm half delirious that it's finally upon us, time to build some staging, screw some lights to the ceiling and construct the sound systems!

Everything you need to know is summarised nicely here:

> > > SELECTED INFO ON SOME OF THE ARTISTS INVOLVED < < <

NEW DISPLAY STRATEGIES will present 'Art in the service of interdependence'. Taken from the idea of Art in the service of the revolution, the artists re-present Russian constructivist theatre design as sophisticated propaganda.

EDDIE PEAKE & PAUL SIMON RICHARDS will be presenting a new video performance that draws links between the beautiful horrors of the body as explored in Shakespearean tragedy and YouTube dance instruction videos. These bodies take the form of characters and objects as well as media languages such as television sitcom and football.

DANIELLE DEAN works with bright colours and sculptural forms, real or imagined, to explore contemporary ideas of race and social difference. She will be collaborating with photographer, Theo Cook, to create images with reference to a variety of media - science fiction, advertising and pornography.

JULIA CRABTREE & WILLIAM EVANS build consuming sets with reclaimed materials. They will present experiments with found footage and outmoded display equipment.

LUCKYPDF will specially construct a television station, shortcast inside the Auto-Italia building and streamed online, with live transmissions throughout the weekend.

RACHAL BRADLEY is producing a giant cape costume, which the drummers of different bands will physically inhabit. Huge arrows create an energy flow towards the performers with the force field marked out by crystals harnessing all of the nest energy in the world.p>

RUTH EDWARDS is making a celebratory monument. Suspended above the bands as they play, it will depict imagined interactions between the different groups and people involved throughout the weekend. To mark this occasion she will also be releasing a flock of Doves in the park across the road from Auto-Italia.

UPSET THE RHYTHM - EPISODE 5 - NO AGE

Upset The Rhythm TV #5: No Age from Charles Chintzer Lai on Vimeo.

Here is the latest episode of Charles Chintzer Lai's Upset the Rhythm TV, where No Age are filmed at Dial House, Essex and live at The Grosvenor, Stockwell.
At the start of the episode, Randy comes face to face (or maybe face to neck) with his larger than life recreation, part of Charlotte's art project. Said giant Randy now watches me all day while I work.

Enjoy!
