UPSET THE RHYTHM is 6 YEARS OLD TODAY

Celebrations!
It's our 6th birthday today and we're having a party with LIGHTNING BOLT, DRUM EYES and CHOPS later tonight at the Dome, we will have cake, balloons and free stickers (yes - really!) so come early, music starts around 8.40pm and doors will be open from 7.30pm. Lightning Bolt first played a show for us way back in December 2004 at our 13th show no less, not to mention it being the 1st show at Barden's Boudoir, when it was a furniture storeroom with the makeshift bar built during soundcheck! Memories! Enough of flying time already, tonight's show is sold out, there aren't any tickets remaining on the door but bear in mind we still have SOME for our show with ARIEL PINK on Sunday so we'll save you some party hats if you missed out. In an attempt to overdose on fun we're also overjoyed that the debut album by THE STICKS is released this week on CD and double 7" (including Mark E. Smith's forehead in the artwork) and is now available in the shops and from our illustrious webstore here:

Thanks again for all your support over these last 72 months, Upset The Rhythm is more than just us and the bands we work with, it's also you too and for that we're truly indepted, now words >

UPSET THE RHYTHM'S 6th BIRTHDAY PARTY with...
LIGHTNING BOLT
DRUM EYES
CHOPS
Thursday 10 December
Tufnell Park Dome, 178 Junction Road, Tufnell Park, N19 5QQ
8pm | 9.00 | SOLD OUT

LIGHTNING BOLT emerged from Providence, Rhode Island in 1995, based around Brian Chippendale's explosive, non-stop drumming and singing and Brian Gibson's squirmy bass lines. The group helped found Fort Thunder, a music and art collective, and recorded a self-titled album which was issued through Load in 1999. Lighting Bolt have since toured the world multiple times and have released a number of albums each outdoing the the last in terms of crazy and heavy. Last we left this amplified tribe of two on 2005's "Hypermagic Mountain", Lightning Bolt were tossing thousand of years worth of musical history into a wood chipper and coming up with some chewy chainsaw taffy. Their new missive, "Earthly Delights" comes after two years of intensive electro-shock therapy driven recording. The doors of Lightning Bolt's practice space literally spilled forth giga-litres of sweat born of echo-stretched dedication to archaeology of understanding advanced musicology to make the most awesome record of 2009 and now they are back on the road again bringing their utterly energising live show back to the mob.

DRUM EYES are DJ Scotch Egg's drum thunder worship gang. Experts at whipping up a hypnotic maelstrom of tribal trip-outs infused with sludgy doom and weird electronics. It makes a lot of sense that Eda from the Boredoms is a member of Drum Eyes, as the songs can twist 180 degrees and equally sound as beamed in from some alien kingdom, taking the weirdest forms of krautrock and hurling punk synth ideas, crushing walls of ambience and 8-bit frazzle into the mix with relish. Expect a new album on Upset The Rhythm spring 2010 - very exciting!

CHOPS are a wild, damaged dance band, who leapt from the cauldron of Leeds' ever-evolving DIY musical stew and hit the ground running in 2007, hellbent on perfecting their spontaneous combustion of jazzoid excess and lock-popping party bombs. Richard 'Moz' Morris, Dominic Clare and Leon Carey married up their love of fidgety drum patterns, effect-drenched saxophone and synthesizer showdowns in such a way that every broken sound that swelled forth was caked in euphoria and creeped-out gravity. After amassing multiple PA-systems into their live set-up, the band embarked on a series of ear-bleeding shows across the country, allowing their improvised chaos to solidify into the unpredictable genre-warping curiousities that they recorded for their debut release on Upset The Rhythm last year. This will be one of their last shows as a trio before they expand to an even more out-there 5-piece!
